Hair is such an important part of our identity, but sadly, there are many reasons hair loss occurs, one being as a side effect of treatment for cancer.
When one of the team at Redz Hair & Beauty salons in Newent was diagnosed with breast cancer, Callie, Karen and their colleagues decided they wanted to use their skills and experience to do something positive for cancer sufferers.
So for Callie, wig training seemed the right starting point. The right wig can make a cancer patient look like their old self again – or maybe even the new version of themselves they’ve never dared to try out before.
Callie, who’s based at Redz Hair at 5 Court Lane which opened in 2002, now works with clients to choose the perfect wig for them. Though each wig can take up to 60 hours to make, once ordered they are delivered quickly, within just a couple of days.
Callie then shows her client how to fit, wear and care for their new hair. Wigs can be made from a wide array of fibres, from synthetics to real human hair, and Callie can provide all the products you’ll need to keep your new wig looking just how you’d like. She can provide hair toppers, medical wigs and high-fashion style wigs, too.
Meanwhile, over at Redz Beauty at 3 Court Lane, established in 2012, Karen and her team already knew that many therapists were unable to safely treat cancer patients, despite the positive impact massage and holistic therapies can have.
So Karen , Stacey and Sue went to The Amethyst Trust, a registered charity offering one of the first accredited courses to enable the safe treatment of cancer clients in salons and spas.
Now Karen and her team can offer gentle post-operative massage, specialist cancer massage, facials, reiki and acupuncture especially formulated for those undergoing cancer treatment.
Not forgetting nails, too! Hair loss is a well-known side effect of cancer treatment but fewer people realise the damage it can inflict on nails.
Karen and Callie have researched the IBX nail system, an all-natural way to strengthen and repair nails damaged by medication or chemotherapy so everyone can now enjoy a spirit-lifting manicure.
It’s important to the team that wigs and treatments are all reasonably priced, with options for all budgets, and gift vouchers are available, too.
