What could be better than a cool pint on a hot day? And up and down the Daffodil Line we have plenty of top notch watering holes to choose from. Cobblers in Newent recently won a well deserved CAMRA award and this week 4 of our favourites on and near the route, have made it to the Telegraph Top 500 pubs in in England. Hurrah!
First up the Kings Arms in Newent, closest to the bus route and a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike. Great beer, hearty eats and a friendly atmosphere with a community focus make this one a winner. Though the KA is on the main road you will find a spaciaous garden with plenty of sunshine and shade to the side and rear of the pub.. close to Newents old railway statin and the soon to be restored Herefordshire and Gloucestershire canal.
Next a 15 minutes stroll from the bus stop brings you to the Alma Inn in Linton, Famed for its music festival the Alma is worth a visit at any time of year for the great ales, scrumptious food and community atmosphere. In the heart of the countryside the garden at the Alma offers plenty of space for relazing with a cool drink and enjoying the summer eweather.
Catch the 33 for the short 10 minute hop from our Ross terminus in Cantilupe Road to Peterstow and the Yew Tre Inn. This si a cider focussed pub, deep in the countryside and making the most of our fabulous local apple harvests – don’t miss the last bus back! Another lovely garden awaits with plenty of space for two legged and four legged customers.
And finally from Newent, connect to the stagecoach 32 to Gloucester where you will find the Pelican nestled in a quiet side street in the shadow of Gloucester Cathedral. Over the last 12 years the Peli has gone from being one of the roughest pubs in Gloucester to arguably the City’s best. This is a Wye Valley Brewery pub with a uniquely welcomeing atmosphere and the excellent ales you would expect. The coutryard garden at the Peli enjoys lovely views of the cathedral, and you can even pick a strawberry or two to nibble on from the planters.
We know how hard it is to run a successful pub these days – and we are truly blessed to have so many fine examples right on our bus routes.
